Annie Londonderry’s Extraordinary Ride

Peter Zheutlin

Abstract

Annie “Londonderry” Kopchovsky (1870-1947) was the first woman to bicycle around the world. She was a fiercely independent and free-thinking young woman, who found freedom by reinventing herself as the daring “Annie Londonderry” — entrepreneur, athlete, and celebrated globetrotter.
